About Us

Mission

To help athletes and celebrities use their resources and influence to develop sustainable and impactful solutions to our nation's most pressing social problems.

We have the intellectual capital and active involvement of 22 of the nation’s largest and most impactful foundations and financial institutions. We focus on helping you address our nation’s most critical issues by partnering you with the best nonprofit organizations and experts in the field.

Who We Are

The Admiral Center is a partnership between NBA Legend David Robinson and Living Cities, a collaboration of 22 of the world’s largest foundations and financial institutions. With these resources behind us, we help our members define their cause and passion, develop sustainable, long-term approaches to addressing their cause and help them channel their voice and influence.

The Admiral Center has a simple theory: if we combine the nation’s experts in community impact with the most passionate, dedicated celebrities, then together we can make a real difference.

History

In 2008, David Robinson and his business partner Dan Bassichis met with Ben Hecht, then the newly appointed CEO of Living Cities. David wanted to turn his passion into philanthropy that would create sustainable social change and wanted to help other athletes and celebrities work toward the same end. David and Dan knew that a relationship with an organization like Living Cities could help deepen the results of his community investments. As their conversations progressed, it became clear that the expertise of Living Cities and its members combined with a model of giving like David would be a perfect resource to other community minded athletes and entertainers seeking to make a significant impact on the world.

After a year of feasibility studies, extensive interviews with leaders in the nonprofit, sports and entertainment arenas and the generous support to the John S. and James L. Knight and JP Morgan Chase Foundations, the Admiral Center was launched in January of 2009.
